Sebastapistes strongia
(Cuvier, 1829)
Barchin scorpionfish, 9.5cm
These are all tentatively identified as Sebastapistes strongia, mostly
due to the fleshy protrusions above each eye. However, other species of scorpaenids
apparently have similar structures, so it is likely that not all of those below
are the same. We saw these at various sites around Tulamben and Amed, particularly
at Sidem.
